Is it illegal to work off the clock?

My boss just unrolled a new policy that he now longer will be fixing time clock edits if we forget to clock in for the day. He said we wouldn't be paid for that days work. My job is a commission + Hourly job. Is this still legal? Or does he know a loophole that I don't? Please help
