Rap music fans PLEASE................?

Does it ever offend you when self-proclaimed "experts" make ignorant comments about a genre they clearly know nothing about? For example, many people (that obviously) don't listen to rap and may never have say things like it's all about gangs and drugs, it's not music, blah, blah, blah. Do you feel people would think differently if they actually took the time to do some research and listen to some songs before they just open their mouths or begin typing keys? Someone just wrote that rap isn't music because rappers don't write most of their own lyrics!?!?!??!!! *sigh* Also, why don't people ever speak about Gospel rap, rap empowering women to stand up for themselves, or songs speaking about giving up old habits? Do you think it could be the fact the most rappers are people of color? I took an African American intro to music course at my university and even Gospel singers dealt with resistance from others. I feel these comments are representative of a larger problem of people deeming themselves "experts" of a culture they know NOTHING about and are too hateful and caught up in umptions/prejudice to try and understand. What are your thoughts, fellow rap fans?
