How amazing was the Olympic Opening Ceremony?

I can't say I am a huge fan of the Olympics, happened to stop on the Opening Ceremony while channel surfing. Glad I did. Just spectacular. Cl, beauty, precision and grace. Money was clearly no object. Now, how lame are the Super Bowl half time shows? I know there have been one or two worth watching (Paul McCartney in '05 and last year's Tom Petty was okay), but most of them were toward the end of the negative scale (Up With People in '86).
